ARTWORK STATEMENT:

A Quilt for the Poison is a collage made from gelatin silver prints and found photos. Shrined in the center is poison oak; a plant familiar to many in Northern California. Poison oak grows along heavily disturbed land, like trail edges, acting as a defense mechanism for the land in response to severe human intervention.

Artist Bio:

Dionne Lee is a visual artist working in photography, collage, and video to explore personal history, power, and agency in relation to the American landscape. She has exhibited work at the Museum of Modern Art, Aperture Foundation, the School of the International Center of Photography in New York, and throughout the Bay Area including Aggregate Space, Interface Gallery, and the San Francisco Arts Commission.
