ARTWORK STATEMENT:

What we made in the hold is a meditation on the belly of the slave ship and what kinds of new subjectivities were produced in the Transatlantic crossing. The image subtly speaks to the violence of the crossing and the new kinds of family forms that were produced in its wake.
